NDMC discusses plan of action against high tide occurrence in Kampong Ayer for this year

The Brunei Darussalam National Disaster Management Centre prioritizes efforts at dealing with natural catastrophes such as floods, landslides and strong winds. Wednesday, the centre held a tabletop discussion pertaining to plan of action and preparedness in bracing against high tide occurrence in Kampong Ayer for the current year. The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Haji Serbini bin Haji Ali was present. The core purpose of the session was to find ways in dealing with the occurrence of exceptional high tides in Kampong Ayer. The plan of action is of utmost important to the water village dwellers.

According to Senior Superintendent of the Disaster Management Centre, Salehuddin bin Haji Abrahim, the tabletop discussion is held at the initiative of the National Disaster Management Centre. It is hoped that contingency plans formulated at the discussions could be used as reference in emergency cases and the occurrence of massive natural catastrophes.

The action teams involved in the Tabletop Training include the Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Brunei Police, the Information Department, the Brunei Muara District Office, the Ministry of Health and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Amongst the topics discussed included a simulated high tide occurrence in Kampong Ayer and preparedness of agencies with their action plan in facing the high tide phenomena.
